Sharad Chandra Rai (APS 2011) and Dinesh Prasad Joshi (APS 2011) were born in different villages in Nepal. They were brought together by a scholarship offered by the government of Nepal to study at a prestigious school in Kathmandu. Their journey together continued when they enrolled as students in APU. Upon graduation, they continued in pursuit of their dream to provide equal education to students in Nepal. Towards this end, they both decided to pursue further education, Sharad going to Tokyo University and Joshi to the United Nations University. They joined forces to create the NPO “You Me Nepal Trust”, whose activities include building schools in rural villages and offering learning support to school-going children among other projects. Asked about their motivation, the two replied, “We were born in disadvantaged villages but thanks to the government’s scholarship programs, we were able to attend high school. Thanks to the kindness of APU in offering us scholarships, we were able to study overseas. Now it is our turn to return the favor and use education as a tool to give back to the children of Nepal”. Their efforts have garnered great support from many individuals and groups, and is gaining momentum. We hope to continue supporting graduates who continue to commit themselves to improve society and build a better future for coming generations.
