<Recent reports in Khotang.>
①From Mr Akita.
Namaste! I am Akita and currently working in YouMe School as a volunteer in Khotang.
It’s been about 9 months since I have bee here and I am going to be here for another 3 months.
I don’t have much time left so I want to do everything with in my ability to enjoy these remaining days doing what I can.
We had a long autumn vacation for a month.

Let me tell you about the festival of lights. It’s called Tihar. It’s 5 days long and what we have to do is different for all days.
Day 1: Worship crows.
Day 2: Worship dogs and put red powder on their foreheads called Tika on our foreheads and put garland over their neck made by marigolds.
Day 3: Worship Lakshmi, goddess of wealth. We draw something that looks like her and decorate her in the house or front of stores/shops.
Make the way with lights for the god so she can walk there.

Day 4: Worship cows, considered as a god in Indian and Nepal. Put Tika on our foreheads and wear garlands as same as day 2.
Day 5: It’s the last day of Tihar. It calls Bhai Tika and this day is for siblings.
Sister put Tika on their brothers’ foreheads. The Tiki could be of any color. Only this day the color of Tika can be of any color. Also they decorate their brother with a garland and pray for their health and long life. The brothers will give the sisters money in return.
So I have a Nepali sister now:)

It was a big festival and I danced with kids. I had fun a lot. If I have a chance I want to celebrate this festival again in Nepal.

The final term started from November 12th and we had Yasuhiko Mizutani a drummer from Japan came to teach music.

The class was held outside. He taught music from the first graders to the fifth graders in the school yard.

At first, they were like they weren’t sure what to do with the drums because it was their first time to see and touch and they seemed quite shy. But they soon got used to it and were excited and enjoyed the music.
The kids imitated Mizutani and they just played what they wanted to do.
I felt it was something new and fun for everyone.

Not only he taught how to play the drums but also taught body percussion.
Mizutani said that, “We don’t need instruments, we can enjoy music using our body too!”
I think the kids were ale to understood the meaning. The last day, they sang a Nepali folk. YouMe teacher played the guitar and Mizutani played the drum for the kids.
I think they enjoyed a lot.
Thank you so much for this opportunity, Mr. Mizutani!
Please come and visit us again!

Right now, school yard expansion is under process.
The schoolyard wasn’t big enough for everyone and the students argued a lot.

But now it’s going to be double in size after the expansion and the kids are waiting eagerly for the construction to finish.
I want them to run at their full speed in this school yard!
Also, I am in charge of physical education lessons so I am also very excited that I can use the new the ground for my classes.

(Before expansion)

(After expansion)
I think it’s already winter in Japan, so please take care of yourself.
Thank you for reading 🙂
See you next time!

②Teacher No.6 Introduction
Her name is Sanjana.
She has been working here for 2 years now.
She is in charge of Nursery classes.
Also, she was lives about an hour from the school so everyday she comes to school surrounded by kids.

1.Why are you working in YouMe School?
I want to teach many things to the kids and gain knowledge necessary and I also want to learn many things.
2.What are some good things about YouMe School?
Students can learn English which we can’t at public school and also we have many computers so we can learn in a practical way.
I went to a public school and I never touched a computer before I came here.
3.How about kids in Nursery classes?
They tried to learn. Every kid is different and they are learning at their own pace.
I am happy to be able to teach them.

4.What exactly you are doing for growth of this school?
I am doing my best right now but I want to learn more and teach.
5.What is YouMe School for you?
Place for learning. Share opinions with other teachers and have some discussions.
I want to learn a lot of things here.
6.Can you say a few words to our YouMe supporters in Japan.
First, I really appreciate all the support from Japan. Thank you so much.

<Recent report of Morang.>
Report from Machii.
Namaste!I am Matsui working as a volunteer in YouMe School.
Time just flew by. One more month and we are done with this year. I’m here for another two weeks.
I am going to try not to waste my time.
The final term has started and the students come to the school with all their energy.

Biratnagar is very close to India and thus summer season is longer then Kathmandu and Kothang.
Temperature is over 30 degrees even though it’s October.
Also, it’s the monsoon season here.  It has been raining everyday and kids can’t play outside.
At the end of November, things have settled down and the kids can play outside.
It is great to play outside for their body but I think they want to play more then study.

Recently, I took some classes using the globes which HOBONICHI Co., Ltd donated.
In Nepal, textbooks doesn’t have world map so it’s difficult to really understand geography.
Also, we don’t have any opportunities to get a globe so there were many students who didn’t know the location of countries.

I can stay here for only a short time but I will  try to work on this project using it in some social science classes so they can learn in a practical way.

As Akita, who is working in Kotangs said about the festival, here in Biratnagar too we celebrated Tihar and it was so beautiful at night.
I’m hoping everyone will end this year on a high note and wish you a happy new year.
Thank you for reading.
See you next time!
