Learning to Code
※Coding is using computer language to tell a computer what to do. The skills necessary for coding include being able to analyze a problem, break it down, engage critical thinking and logic. It involves the process of creating step-by-step instructions a computer understands and needs for its programs to work. It has its syntax and its grammar.
We have introduced a coding curriculum in our YouMe School Khotang, where our students are gradually studying the process of coding that involves fostering creativity and logical thinking.
Our students have found the class to be very entertaining and educational. They love going to the computer lab and exploring new horizons of unconventional learning.

Our student Welcome from Grade 6 is creating a simple intro webpage of his favorite football player by using HTML and CSS. From HTML side, he added heading, paragraph and tag for intro and tag to insert the images.
He also further used a tag to show the list of achievements in an unordered order. After structuring this design from HTML and styles from style CSS, he was able ti align, change color, set background, resize image, set font, set margin and padding for his project.
Anamol, from Grade 6 is learning some features of windows like changing background, animation and screen saver.

Apart from being able to use Computer/IT in day to day life, our goal is to help develop interest in coding from early school years so that in the future, students can reap the
benefits from the huge possibilities the IT sector offers. To deliver the best our Computer teacher Sangam Paudel is facilitating in the field. Here we introduce and he shares his journey.
Introducing teacher of coding
Namaste, my name is Sangam Paudel.
I am originally from Kapilvastu district. I did my graduation with B. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. After my graduation, I was working as a Web Application Developer in one of the software companies in Nepal. Switching the job from web development to teaching was an absolutely new experience for me. I also feel this job has given me a sense of responsibility and pushed me forward to give my best. My students are curious and always eager to learn more about coding and computer science. Having introduced coding in the curriculum has made them love the subject more and enjoy the technicalities in a fun way.
Currently, we are learning to develop a webpage and how coding actually works. My goal by the end of this year will be to help my students become entirely capable of developing web pages and learning the basics of programming languages. I am very confident that our students will go on to achieve a lot in the computer programming and software development field. I feel proud and happy to be a part of this venture where we actually work in making a difference.
Our fellowship program will provide the opportunity for our students to get connected with people from different walks of life who are bright, enthusiastic, and passionate about what they do. In this edition, we will get to know our fellows who recently were recruited in the fellowship program for our YouMe School, Khotang.
Binish Tamang
I was born in Kakani, Nuwakot, and grew up in Kathmandu city. I stayed in the city for around 17 years. Coming to Khotang was an absolutely new experience and nonetheless, teaching was a whole new phase of my life.
As of now, it’s already been a month and I have perfectly settled in Khotang. Moreover, I feel at home living here in Khotang. Not to mention, the teachers at the YouMe school are very supportive of my ideas. With the support from the YouMe School family, “I believe, I can fly”. And I can help students feel the same.
During my tenure in the YouMe school, I have planned to give my students the knowledge that I gained from my 13 years of school life. I am thankful that YouMe school has given me the opportunity to showcase myself and shape the future of my country by nourishing it’s foundations.
I have some certain plan of creating a Personality Development class is still in progress and I am sure we will soon see the students with skill sets like time management, creative writing, and mass speaking.
Sonam Sherpa
I am from Khotang but I grew up in Kathmandu. There I spent the past twelve years of school. I am currently a second year student on Business Studies.
I love traveling and community service activities and that lead me to join YouMe school for the fellowship program. The fellowship program itself was great, and the location to be at Khotang was icing on the cake. This would help me to explore my own village and most importantly I would meet new people (a lot) and will have to challenge myself to deliver, to share the knowledge and skills I have gained so far to a new community of people.
During this fellowship program, I have certain plans and activities in my list that I would love to conduct and share with students. My first activity is to build team work among the students and to create a students club a similar to ECA club. In this club students will learn different skills needed for their future. Career development, time management, CV writing, free-writing, public speaking, math solutions discussions, new technologies discussions, first aid knowledge, etc are to name some the activities that will be done within the club members. This skills are the most important skills to keep them up to date with the world. In the club they will not only find me as a teacher but as of their friend who is helping them to learn and also learning and enjoying with them. With the skill set they have been provided they can use it any field of their life.
And for all the activities there would be presentation and reward. So the students will be more inclusive, engaged, active and more dedicated.

Saraswati Puja Celebration
Our puja started at 8 in the morning. Our whole school was decorated with colorful paper and flowers.
Goddess Saraswati is worshipped for her intelligence, knowledge, and harmony. So, our school had organized a small puja session where a priest was called to do the rituals.

Every year we give a special order to make Goddess Saraswati statue. The statue is made of clay and hay. After giving a preferable shape to the statue, the statue is embellished with ornaments and clothes. Our divine Goddess Saraswati was wearing a white saree, seated on a swan, and carrying a book and veena ( a musical instrument). After puja, the teachers and students enjoyed a prasad (sweets) and the celebration eventually came to end.
The next day of the Saraswati Puja
The tradition says if we have a statue and idol of Goddess Saraswati, the next day we have to perform the other important ritual of immersing the statue in a river. The immersion procession was carried out and a few of our teachers and staff went to the river nearby our school to complete the holy ritual.
This marks the farewell of the ceremony of the Goddess to their abode and only to welcome the Goddess next year.
Students Corner
This section is specially dedicated to our students who want to express themselves through writing. In this, you can see our students showcase their talents and express themselves in the spectrums of different styles of writing. In this edition, we have students from Grade 1 to 4. We believe that the liberal writings will encourage our students to encompass their imaginations, the gamut of feelings and innocence they want to express through their simple writings.
