Places to visit in Kathmandu

As a world, we may be suffering a lot from various issues be it ongoing pandemic environmental, humanitarian issues, and many more but still one of the best things anyone could think of right now would be a refreshing traveling. Nepal has always been a tourist’s favorite destination as it offers manifold social and cultural diversity in abundance.

Boudhnath Stupa – Evening time

Among many beautiful tourist spots, Boudhanath is one of the oldest and unique monuments that are enlisted in UNESCO world heritage sites. This place is very spiritual and fascinating. We can see people especially following the Buddhist religion chant mantras and circumvent the stupa almost every day. This place is also very popular among locals and people visit on weekends for refreshment. Besides this, we can see colorful and attractive Nepali handicraft shops and a variety of restaurants serving different flavorful cuisines.

Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples in Asia. Pashupatinath temple is listed in UNESCO cultural heritage sites. The temple has a complex design and exquisite wood carvings. Besides, its beautiful architecture and religious significance, the temple is also known to be a sacred place for burning corpses. After the death people bring corpses and perform rituals and rites of cremation nearby the Bagmati river. People visit the temple for religious, cultural, and spiritual experiences. We can also witness mesmerizing aarti sessions (a special ritual of worship at the bank of the Bagmati river) every evening.

Students offering flowers and prasad to Goddess Saraswati

Students waiting in line to worship Goddess Saraswati

On Saraswati Puja, we honor and worship Goddess Saraswati. This is a festival that marks the preparation for the arrival of spring. This festival is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati who is the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and intellect. She symbolizes creative energy and power in all its forms, including longing and love.

Our school celebrated this day with great fervor with all the teachers and students gathered at the school premises. This year we kept it simple considering the pandemic situation. However, our students had fun. They had a small singing session as well. Susana from grade six performed a song and all the students and teachers couldn’t resist clapping along with the flow. After a puja offering the celebration came to a close with the distribution of Prasad. (its food or fruits offered to a God and later the foods are shared among the people-devotees).

We can clearly see how delicious the prasad looks and tastes as Jules Rai, our 1st grader student face says it all. He is obviously savoring its flavor and enjoying it to the fullest.

            Half-yearly Examination

Reopening our school was a thoughtful decision we had made examining every potential risk following the health and safety precautions keeping our teachers and students safe. After nearly 10 months our first physical examination since the pandemic was conducted in our school. We ensured our exams were carried out without any risk to the health. Our students had masks on all the time and were sanitized before entering the examination hall.

We know social distancing is a tough task for the students as they come together while doing so many activities. Being a remote place we hardly get access to the prerequisite resources so the essentials for safety measures and equipment have to be transported to Khotang from Kathmandu mostly. But we are thankful to our teachers who are working so hard and adamantly putting our student’s safety a priority by making sure all follow the safety measures. This way everybody is safe and out of danger.

Handmade Statue of Goddess Saraswati, the statue is decorated with artificial lighting, diyo (oil lamp), and flowers.

Goddess Saraswati is known to be a god of knowledge, wisdom, art; on this auspicious day, the staff and students of our school came together to seek the blessings. The day was started by worshipping Goddess Saraswati with great dedication and devotion by our students and teachers. This day usually is celebrated massively in schools but because of the pandemic, we made the celebration private and very basic.

Our student posing for a picture with a diyo in her hand. Diyo is essential while performing any kind of Puja, especially in Hindu religion.

However, we could see our students enjoying the day with great zeal and fondness despite various restrictions that had to be maintained for safety reasons. The event ended with a prasad distribution.

Similarly in Biratnagar, our students appeared for their first physical examination. We had planned the examination after an intense discussion and consultation. Our teachers and staff are fully aware of the situation and they made sure all the necessary preparations were put in place before and after the examination. Safety and security have always been our foremost concern and we are happy to provide the best of our capabilities to our students and staff. We really believe that great teamwork can make everything possible.

Our student in the science laboratory

We are committed to bringing the best of our students by giving them opportunities for self-exploration. While doing so, getting them familiar with the latest lab supplies they will be getting a first-hand experience of learning by performing experiments. This is helpful in learning scientific concepts and complex theories.

<Online Project>

Working in the educational sector we can witness how education plays a key role in impacting every individual’s life either in shaping a great future or just becoming a tool for living a life. Education is the fundamental right of every individual and the idea of just promoting education is not sufficient. We really need to give high importance and address the educational issues that are becoming a barrier to delivering the desired quality education to our students.

It’s been a journey of ups and downs since we ventured out in our online education program at Balamta and Baraha school. Despite the myriad challenges, we are happy to be able to provide the best educational guidance to the students of Baraha and Balamta school in Math and Science subjects. We are using PowerPoint slides where they can actually see the process and visuals. We believe that this kind of approach is helping the students understand better and effectively.
