Happy New Year 2022

We started 2021 hoping our lives would be Covid free or at least free from the fear of entangling ourselves in a new wave of Covid variants. Yet our wish remains unfulfilled as the new year starts with a new variant of Covid infecting millions of people worldwide.

Well, the good news is we have made it through another year of living with the pandemic. These years have been hard, exhausting, and terrifying. But here we are alive and kicking. May this year be a year of resilience, happiness, and strength. We would like to wish everyone a very happy new year and here’s to better times ahead.

We are happy to announce that we successfully conducted a second terminal examination last week. We followed very strict safety protocols and took examinations in a Covid-safe manner. Our examination started on the 11th of January and ended on the 19th of January.

We’d feared the outbreak of a new variant might affect the examination schedule. But with the dedicated staff in the field, it was possible to complete the exam in time. Soon after the examination, we had to close the school following the order directed by the government. Our school will be closed till January 29th and we will abide by whatever the government decision be thereafter.

Fellowship Program

In a remote area like a Khotang school, the shortage of teachers was a big problem.
Good teachers tend to find a job in big cities such as Kathmandu rather than rural schools.

Therefore, we have started a fellowship program that recruits young teachers who want to gain experience in distant schools in a short period of time and evaluates motivation rather than experience.

Under the program, two passionate fellows Binish Tamang(First picture) and Sonam Sherpa(Second picture) have started teaching in the school.  Binish Tamang teaches Maths Class One to Three and handles Job Vocational subjects too. Meanwhile Sonam Sherpa teaches Maths from Class Four to Seven.

We believe in building a community by creating a platform that gives equal chances of growth to fellows and students. We hope to encourage the youths to make a difference and we give them a chance to teach and learn vice-versa.

Break Time Stills

Our students are enjoying the break time to the fullest. The break time means playtime making memories and giggles galore. The moments made with friends are special and invaluable. Our students from Class Two Arusha and Laxmi are sharing a skipping play.

These are some of the random playtime moments we see in our regular school day. With the sudden rise in the Covid cases, the school’s operation has been discontinued till January 29th. Life has been tough since the pandemic started but we are grateful to be safe and well. We hope the situation gets better and we will welcome our students soon.

Examination

Our terminal examination was over on the 10th of January in Biratnagar school. Like we are very much concerned about the safety and well-being of our students and staff, we followed the government’s guidelines and took safety measures while conducting the examination.

Krishna Sah from Grade Six is taking his Maths examination. We are glad we were able to accomplish the exams from Nursery to Class Ten hassle-free.

Result Distribution

On the 16th of January, Sunday we held a result distribution day after the exams. We know how special this occasion is for our students and parents but given the current circumstances and safety concerns we couldn’t organize a ceremony.

This is the day we acknowledge the talent of our students and celebrate the positions they secured. Parents came to collect the results of their children. Our teachers guided them through the process and addressed their queries.

Festival Maghe Sankranti

Maghe Sankranti is a festival celebrated on the first of Magh in the Nepali calendar and falls in mid-January every year. Maghe Sankranti is regarded as the beginning of the warmer days and the end of the winter season. And also means the beginning of the spring season. This festival is specially celebrated by the Tharu and Magar communities of Nepal.

On this day special dishes are made mainly til ko laddu- made of sesame seeds, ghee, sweet potatoes, yam, etc. These are some of the special delicacies prepared on this day to eat. This day families get together to enjoy the food and have a good time. Also, hindu devotees take ritual baths like taking a dip or bathing in a river.

Rice mixed with horse gram dal (Lentil), is also one of the traditional dishes cooked on this day as the main course enjoyed with a variety of curry and meat items.

Famous Nepali food that everyone loves

Momo

It’s no secret or wonders that momo is one of the most popular foods in Nepal. As a typical Nepali, we can safely say that the go-to and comfort food of Nepalese people has always been a momo. You go to restaurants, turn pages of the menu, go through the lists of the menu but you end up ordering momo eventually. This is how popular momo is in Nepal.

We have varieties of momos and also shapes can differ sometimes too. You can find momo in every restaurant and food stall. Its availability and affordability also make momo an excellent choice of dish. Well, talking about the varieties we have: chicken momo, buff momo, pork momo, veg momo, paneer momo, cheese momo, etc, these are some of the options for momo lovers.

Like different choices the momos can be steamed, fried, or jhol (comes with soup). Momo basically is a food that you can adjust with your taste buds.
