【Trash to Treasure 】

School often produces a certain amount of waste materials that are used daily in school. We believe that it’s our responsibility to take care of our environment and surroundings. Hence, our teachers organized a competition named “Trash to Treasure” and recycled the waste produced in school. They had a great time recreating and learning about recycling altogether.

Our students from Grade Three to Five were the main participants. This competition encouraged students to delve deep into their concepts. They did their best to explore their favorite areas and exhibit the ideas outstandingly.

Paper and plastics are the major waste that school creates and most of the items recreated were of paper and plastic bottles. For us, everybody’s performance was exceptional and extraordinary. Our students showcased their innate talent and creativity. They made baskets, guitars, flower pots, cars, etc. Eventually, the winners from each class were announced.

Results:

1st Place: Rosniya ( Grade 3)
1st Place: Lismika (Grade 4)
1st Place: Verygood ( Grade 5)

In addition, there was a special title of “BEST MODEL” amongst the remarkable recreation and the winner was Bisma from Grade Four. She made a basket out of chocolate wrappers. The winning students were rewarded with stationery items.

The zestful participation from our students made this event memorable. This event has helped us learn some solid ideas to grow a recycling activity in a fun and educational way.

【Tavis’s memorable trip to Kathmandu】

Our student from Senior Kindergarten Tavis recently made a short trip to Kathmandu with his parents from Khotang. This trip was a special one as he got to enjoy the holiday with his parents. He started his journey from Khotang by taking a small jeep. The main means of transportation in Khotang are road vehicles. It usually takes 7-8 hours from Khotang to Kathmandu by bus or jeeps.  He really loved the road journey and enjoyed looking through the beautiful scenery.

He also shared his experience joyfully recalling his visits to the zoo, Boudha Stupa, one of the world heritage sites of Nepal, eating out his favorite meals and fun motorbike rides with his father in the city.

The second day he visited the Boudhanath Stupa and found out that it was one of the World Heritage Sites of Nepal. He said he was excited to know the fact and was mesmerized by the energy as he could see people praying, enjoying the view, and roaming around. Also, not to mention, how he enjoyed eating two of his favorite foods momo and pizza.

His other most anticipated visit was to the Central Zoo, that’s located in Jawalakhel, Nepal. He was delighted to see different animals that he would have never seen in one place. It is stated that this zoo is home to about 870 animals. He saw the tiger, lion, elephants, chimpanzees, different types of birds and reptiles. He also added besides enjoying the sightseeing he learned many things about the species of animals and birds. His visit ended with the adventurous airplane ride placed in the zoo for kids. Thinking of the beautiful moments he says he is still filled with excitement and happiness.

【Home visits】

The first phase home visit in 2022 was conducted and completed during the first week of March. This is an integral component of our nutritional awareness practice. The home visit is followed by a descriptive manual where our nurse Nisha Rai, visits the student’s home to assess the home environment, gather information about their nutritional needs and knowledge.

The teachers assist the home visits as they are familiar with the home environment where the parents feel comfortable taking part in the activities. The visits take around 3-4 days to complete. Performing regular home visits has been helping us understand the family situation and environment to achieve the best outcomes out of it.

【Nutritional Screening Program 】

A regular nutritional screening program was conducted in the school. The teachers’ and students went through basic health checkups. This simple screening process helps us discover our student’s current nutritional status. The extensive reports help us make nutrients recommendations and requirements.

【Inter-House Quiz Competition 】

To inspire and motivate students we also conduct different entertaining activities to make them learn about the nutritional facts and importance. Each team consisted of four participants and various challenging and educational questions based on nutrition and hygiene were asked.

The quiz ended with Sakura House winning the show securing the first place whereas Rhododendron House and Marigold House came second and third respectively. To give a boost to their nutritional practice the prizes were fruits which they could eat and enjoy.

【Holi Celebration 】

Holi is a festival of color that celebrates love, harmony and the victory of good over evil in Hindu religious belief. Our students and teachers marked the festivity by playing with different colors.

This auspicious occasion is celebrated widely in Nepal. According to Hindu mythology, King Hiranyakashyap-the king of demonic Asuras wanted him to be worshiped as God which his son Prahlad disagreed with him. Instead, he chose to become a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Due to this reason he gets infuriated and plots to kill his own son with the help of his sister Holika.

Finally, Holika tricks Prahlad to sit on the burning pyre with her whereas Prahlad doesn’t get burnt in the fire but Holika gets engulfed in flames. It is said from that day on, Holi is celebrated to rejoice the victory of good over evil. And that’s how the name Holi was derived from Holika, the sister of King Hiranyakashyap.

Holi is such a positive festival and we loved seeing our teachers and students enjoy smearing color on each other with so much love and happiness.

【Cultural Exchange Program】

The World Festival Program eventually ended on the 14th of March with a great experience of learning and enjoying together.

The primary concept of the program was designed to encourage students to discover, think and take action on their own. We had a total of  2 online sessions and one offline where the students of Nitobe School and YouMe School, Khotang shared the videos, writings, and pictures of their activities and the information about their places.

The final online exchange program content highlighted the culture and festivals of both countries Nepal and Japan. The students discussed and shared their ideas and information about their respective diverse cultures which both the school’s students seemed to enjoy thoroughly. This program helped the students to understand each other’s backgrounds, about the country and culture through enjoyable time and platform. The program lasted 2 hours. What an electrifying event it was!!!

Pre-Final Examination

A pre-final examination was held in our school last week. The exam was conducted to comprehend students’ studies and their preparations for their upcoming final exams.

We took examinations for all classes from Nursery to Class Ten. The final preparation before the annual examination will enable students to take the feedback and results to improve their understanding of the subject matters and perform better.

【Class Ten (Class of 2022) 】

It’s been a strange year and so for many for a common reason of Covid 19 pandemic. Yet focusing on the better and brighter side, it’s time to talk about recalling the memories and reflecting on the things we’ve learnt and experienced. Few of our students from Class Ten share their best memories to their dreams and plans for the future.

Subham Majhi

School life is the best life and making memories with teachers and friends is definitely my favorite part. I clearly remember the day I got enrolled here and immediately found to have met the best and most helpful friends. Coming to this school has helped me learn many things and improved my skills. I used to be a shy student but now I find myself confident.  Making noises with friends and asking stupid questions sometimes only to see my teacher’s reaction is something I will always remember with a smile on my face. These two years just went by since the world was going through a pandemic. And the best part of the year was to be able to attend school again. After graduating from my secondary school I am planning to take science as a major subject.

Sunidh Lama

School is our second home and I learned a lot from my school. I have been studying at this school since its establishment and I will graduate soon. I feel sad and happy to be a part of this school. The best memories are infinite to me but coming down to one would be the practical assignment we had done in a team. We went trying out various foods like burgers, chowmein, biryani etc. In this assignment I got to know the importance of working in a team improving my communication skills and idea generation and socializing skills.

Pinki Mandal

I heard everyone saying school life is the best time of your life. When listening to these phrases from others I always wondered what’s so wonderful about this life. All we do is go to school, attend classes the entire day and do homework. Now since school days are getting over soon I realize this was the best time of my life. I will always cherish the moments I spent with my teachers and friends. I am so happy to have mentored in a way where I feel confident and I am ready to step outside my comfort zone and strive for my goal.

Chadani Rai

I love my school and I look forward to going there and meeting my friends every day. I think the school has helped me prepare to face the challenges of my life and made me stronger. My favorite school memory was the day we went on a school tour with my friends and teachers. We went to visit a beautiful place called Chinde Danda in Dharan, a neighboring city. It takes around 1 hour to reach Dharan from Biratnagar by bus. It was a wonderful experience. I saw paragliding for the first time in my life. I didn’t do paragliding but I enjoyed seeing people fly. We ate delicious local foods and took so many pictures. After I finish school, I am thinking of taking management as my faculty.

【Happy Holi 】

Our students and teachers in Biratnagar also enjoyed the festival of color, Holi. The interesting fact about Holi in Nepal is that it is celebrated on different days in the Terai region and Hilly region. Terai is a lowland region of Nepal so the Holi is celebrated a day later in the Terai region. So, YouMe School, Khotang celebrated Holi on the 17th of March while YouMe School, Biratnagar on the 18th March.

Holi is the day of the celebration of the victory of good over evil and is celebrated on full moon day. It is said that Holika was burned on the day full moon day but in Terai, it became customary to celebrate the Holi the next day. Our students enjoyed the day to the fullest smearing and painting each other with different colors.
